MAKNUN is an Islamic seminary and institute of higher learning dedicated to bridging classical Islamic scholarship with the needs of the modern world. We provide seekers of knowledge with a structured path to mastering sacred texts, fostering spiritual growth, and developing ethical leadership within the Muslim community.
Our curriculum is rooted in the classical Islamic sciences, including Jurisprudence (Fiqh), Theology (Tawheed), Prophetic Traditions (Hadith), and Quranic Sciences (Uloom al-Qur’an). We offer a specialized Arabic Track designed to equip students with the linguistic tools necessary to engage directly with primary sacred texts.
As a newly established institute, MAKNUN is currently in the foundational stages of its institutional development. While we are not yet regionally accredited, our curriculum is designed to meet high academic standards, and we are committed to pursuing formal recognition as we grow.
Tuition varies by program and credit type. We are committed to making sacred knowledge accessible; therefore, MAKNUN offers financial aid and scholarship opportunities. Our policy is to ensure that no dedicated student is turned away solely for financial reasons.
MAKNUN distinguishes itself through a relentless focus on Classical Literacy. We believe that modern challenges require a sophisticated, nuanced understanding of our primary texts. By emphasizing the “Text and Context” approach, we ensure our students are not just informed, but are anchored in a 1,400-year-old tradition of scholarship.
MAKNUN is an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors. While our leadership remains deeply involved in the Sacramento Muslim community, the institute functions as an autonomous academic body, ensuring our curriculum and vision remain focused on long-term educational excellence.
MAKNUN welcomes students at various stages of their spiritual and academic journey. While our “Certificate of Core Competencies” is designed for those seeking foundational depth, our advanced seminars are tailored for students ready for rigorous intellectual engagement.
MAKNUN utilizes a hybrid learning model to ensure accessibility and depth. Many of our foundational courses are available online through our student portal, while specialized intensives and seminars may offer in-person opportunities in the Sacramento area.
